15th Annual Thunder in the Valley Air Show - “Xtreme Thunder”

Saturday, March 17 - Sunday, March 18, 2012  - Columbus Airport


The Thunder in the Valley Air Show began in 1997 as a local fly-in for aviation enthusiasts and has grown to become one of the largest outdoor family events in the Chattahoochee Valley.  The air show brings in top performers from across the United States, all paid for by local and regional sponsors whose products and services are exposed to an average of 15,000 guests each day of the show, and included in advertising that reaches hundreds of thousands before the event.  National attention has been given to the Thunder in the Valley Air Show by the International Council of Air Shows for excellence in marketing. 



 

Gates will open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m.


Performers include:

Team RV, the largest aerobatic formation team in the world; Greg Connell in his radial powered Pitts Model 12; Gary Ward in his MX2; Mark Sorenson Airborne Comedy; F-18 Demonstration Team; V-22 Osprey Demonstration Team; Naval Aviation Legacy Flight; Sky Soldiers Helicopter Demonstration Team; Glory Days Jet Dragster and Stearman Group.  Plus flying demonstrations by current and historic military aircraft, civilian and military aircraft and vehicles on display, airplane and helicopter rides, a military encampment experience, hands-on weapons simulators, a children’s carnival and great food.

 

General admission is $8 in advance and military admission is only $6 in advance. Day-of-event tickets are only $2 more.
Children age six and younger are always free.

Tickets for the Thunder in the Valley Air Show will go on sale February 1, 2012 at Columbus area McDonalds, Cricket Wireless – Macon Road, Flightways Columbus (Columbus Airport), MWR at Ft. Benning, GA and Wells Fargo branches in Columbus, GA, Pine Mountain, GA, Hamilton, GA, Ft. Benning, GA (Main Post) and Phenix City, AL. 

Military discount tickets can be purchased through the MWR Office at Ft. Benning.  

All tickets are good for one of the two show days, but not for both days. (Attendance on both days would require two tickets.)  The Air Show is scheduled rain or shine.  There will be no rain dates and no refunds.

 
Parking Information:

There is free parking for the Thunder in the Valley Air Show at Columbus State University; includes shuttle service.  Limited parking is available at the Airport for $10.00 and Wal-Mart (Airport Thruway) for $5.00. For safety concerns “no parking” rules will be enforced on Airport Thruway and Moon Road.

Benning trainees, Kids Café’, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Columbus High School Soccer, Wounded Warriors, Storybook Farm, Columbus Jaycee’s, Columbus State University’s ROTC Program, Central High School’s ROTC Program, Civil Air Patrol and Girls Inc.

Q. What time do doors open?
A.  Gates open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m.  both days - Saturday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18. 

Q. What is parking like?
A.  $10 parking at the Airport.  Early arrival encouraged.  $5 parking at Wal-mart.  Free parking at Columbus State University with shuttle service.

Q. Does my 5 year old child need a ticket?
A.  Children 6 and under are FREE.

Q. What is the handicap access like?
A.  Parking for persons with disabilities available in VIP parking lot with entry to the event.

Q. Is it all seating or standing room only?
A. Bleachers are available on a first come basis.  Lawn chairs are welcome.

Q. What does General Admission mean?
A. Admission to the event.  Fees required for concessions and kids carnival.

Q. Can I get a refund or exchange?
A.  No rain date. No refund. 

Q. What items are allowed/not allowed?
A.  No refund. No rain date. Not responsible for lost or stolen tickets. No food or drinks. No coolers. No pets. No smoking. No bikes.  No skate boards. No scooters or rollerblades. Lawn chairs welcome.
