Frequently Asked Questions

All spectators over the age of 18 must present a physical photo ID to gain access to this year's air show.

Admission and parking at the show are free, but tickets for seating upgrades are available for purchase.

All of the air show parking is on the installation. For the outlying parking areas, there are shuttles that pick up and take patrons to the pedestrian entry points.

When you arrive at the installation, Security will direct you to the next available parking area.

For those that require accessible parking, please have your placard clearly visible so that Security can direct you to the appropriate accessible parking areas.

We are not offering premium parking this year due to operational changes at the installation. Instead, we will focus our efforts to effectively and safely move the traffic flow both onto and off of the installation.

Screening before entering Air Show

Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of all visitors to NAS Oceana. Accordingly and per Title 41, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 102-74, all bags and hand-carried items are subject to search and inspection prior to entry onto the flight line. Additionally, all visitors are required to enter the flight line via walk-through metal detectors. Any bags will be subject to visual search and inspected by our security staff. Our security forces are in place to ensure the safety of all visitors, so your cooperation with this process is required. Failure to comply with this inspection will result in denial of access to the flight line.

What time do the Blue Angels perform?

We’re still building the flying timeline but our best estimate now is that the Blue Angels will start their performance at 3:00pm as they’ve done in the past.  We’ll update the website when more is known in early August.

What time can I come on base on Saturday or Sunday?

On Saturday and Sunday, the gates open to the public at 8:00am.  Flying starts at about 10:20am and runs until 4:00pm.

Is RV Parking available?

Yes, RV parking is available in a specific area that can accommodate their size. Security will direct you to the appropriate area. For security reasons, this parking area is not close to the flight line.

What is the cost of the show?

Admission and parking at the show are free.  You can purchase upgraded seating either online via the website (www.oceanaairshow.com) or at the show itself.

What are the prices for paid seating?

Bleacher Seating - $15 online ($20 day of show)*

Reserved Seats - $25 online ($30 day of show)*

Executive Squadron Chalet - $150 online*

*Plus processing and credit card fees

What is the difference between Reserved and Bleacher seating?

Reserved seats are the first rows of paid seating. These seats are numbered so you have the same chair for the duration of the event. The bleacher seats are situated behind the Reserved seating sections, offering an elevated view. Bleacher seats are not reserved, so if you leave during the event you may not be able to return to the same seat.

Are there any security policies I need to be aware of?

Our security team is here to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all of our guests.  A few things to remember:

  • Weapons/Concealed Carry – All weapons (regardless of permit) are prohibited, including firearms, knives (including pocket knives and multi-tools), walking sticks (except for handicap use) and all other items that the security force deems dangerous.  Any confiscated items will not be returned.

  • Marijuana/Drugs – Although legal in Virginia, it’s not legal on the installation. Personnel found to be in possession will be charged and asked to leave.

  • Searches/Screening – All guests entering the event and their bags are subject to search.

Prohibited items:

  • Ice chests or coolers

  • Remote control aircraft, drones, balloons (flight safety issue)

  • Large bags (bags larger than a large purse or diaper bag), duffle bags, briefcases

  • Alcoholic beverages

  • Pets (other than service animals)

  • Glass containers

  • Bicycles, roller skates, roller blades or skateboards

Authorized items:

  • Cell phones, tablets and FRS transceivers (may be asked to turn off/on)

  • Handheld portable televisions, radios and scanners

  • Small fanny packs and purses

  • Cameras and camcorders (owners should not load film prior to entering the show area as they may be required to open all compartments at Security Checkpoints).

  • Camera Bags will be searched upon entry

  • Folding chairs and lawn chairs (chairs in bags subject to search)

  • Umbrellas and sunshades

  • Wheelchairs

  • Baby bags and strollers, if attending with an infant or small child (Strollers are not permitted in the paid seating area.  Adjacent stroller parking is available).

Is there Special Needs seating?

Yes.  We have a very robust Special Needs effort at the show to include roving golf carts and a special seating area right near the action at no additional cost. If you prefer to purchase upgraded seating, we provide accommodations there as well. We recommend seating in the reserved seating areas, aisle seats would be our suggestion.

For parking, please make sure your vehicle prominently displays a handicapped placard and you’ll be routed to special parking areas and met by our Special Needs transportation staff.

Are the Saturday and Sunday shows the same?

Yes.  The Saturday and Sunday shows are identical.

Can I bring a pop-up canopy tents (10’x10’) for shade?

No, but you can bring umbrellas and folding chairs.

Can we bring in picnic lunches and drinks?

No food or beverage, but there are a large number of food vendors on the flight line with a huge assortment of different types of foods at very reasonable prices.

Where can I get a schedule of events and performers for the day so I know what time different acts are flying?

A detailed schedule and sequence of events will be available on this website in early September (https://www.oceanaairshow.com/information/schedule).  As a general rule of thumb, flying will start around 10:00am.  Between 11:00am and 12:00pm you will see the National Anthem and several military demonstrations. After 12:00pm the pace of action will begin to increase, with the Blue Angels beginning their performance at 3:00pm.

Weather?

NAS Oceana Air Show weekend is generally a rain or shine event. Every reasonable effort will be made to conduct the Air Show as scheduled. Base leadership, in coordination with weather officials and other resources, will closely monitor weather conditions before and during events. If weather or other circumstances exist or develop, that in the opinion of the NAS Oceana Air Show would present serious hazards to life or property, Air Show events, in whole or in part, may be adjusted or cancelled at the sole discretion of the NAS Oceana Air Show. If the air show is cancelled in it's entirety, refunds would be at the discretion of the NAS Oceana Air Show.
