What is the Helping Christian Boys Thrive Summit?

It is a one-day event led by New York Times Best Selling Author Michael Gurian and Pastor Tim Wright. This event is NOT for kids... it's for adults who lead, teach, influence and raise boys - geared for parents (yes, moms and dads), teachers, coaches, Sunday School teachers, Youth Leaders, Club leaders, Scout Leaders, Christian educators, Christian therapists, and all who are raising, educating, discipling, mentoring and working with boys and young men.

Questions the Summit Can Answer:

What do boys need and how are boys needed in the world? Why are boys falling so far behind in education and life? What do boys need from mom, dad, and grandparents as they grow? How do we create a compelling vision for boys? How has God designed a boy?s brain and how does that design impact how we raise boys? How can we create a boy-savvy environment in our congregation? How can we best protect the emotional lives of our boys and young men? How can we strategically call our sons to follow Jesus into manhood?

Eight Key Needs:

Michael and Tim have identified eight key needs in male development that each community must nurture if boys are to succeed in faith, family, school, and life. The Helping Christian Boys Thrive Summit is a one day event that can focus awareness and offer transformation on some or all of these key needs: Protecting the emotional lives of boys; Mother/son, father/son relationships; Adolescent rites of passage for boys; Education that fits boys? learning styles; Character building and character education; Mentoring systems and male mentoring; How faith communities can help boys; Preparing boys for workplace success.

This is WHY we're offering the conference:

*Boys have fallen behind girls in every area of education from Preschool through Graduate school.
*85% of stimulant-addressing medications (like Ritalin) prescribed in the world are prescribed to U.S. boys.
*Boys are twice as likely as girls to be victims of violence in America, but in certain age groups the ratio is 6:1.
*Boys receive two-thirds of the Ds and Fs in our schools but less than 40 percent of the As.
*Boys are twice as likely as girls to be labeled as ?emotionally disturbed? and twice as likely to be diagnosed with a behavioral or learning disorder.
*Boys are four times as likely as girls to be suspended or expelled from early childhood and K-12 learning environments.
*Over the last 20 years, the reading skills of 17-year old boys have steadily declined.70-90% of all boys will leave the Christian Church in their teens or early 20s, and most won't come back.
