General admission is free. A Parking Pass is required for general parking, one pass per vehicle.


King Street Gate is not available for Air Show attendees.

Airshow attendees will be using Armistead and LaSalle as their entrances onto base. Once capacity is reached, attendees will be using off base parking.

Armistead Gate address: 2951 N Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA 23666

LaSalle Gate address: 15 La Salle Ave, Hampton, VA 23665

Coliseum address: 1000 Coliseum Dr, Hampton, VA 23666

VPCC address: 99 Thomas Nelson Dr, Hampton, VA 23666


For attendees who receive an on-base parking pass, the Armistead and Lasalle gates will open at 9 a.m. on both days. For attendees who receive off base parking, transportation from those lots will begin at 8:45 a.m. on both days.

The Flight Line Club caters to guests looking for an upgraded air show experience with the best views of the flying action. This area offers "in and out" privileges throughout the day for guests to enjoy the static displays, concessions, souvenir booths, and exhibitors.

The Flight Line Club includes outside, tables of 2 or 4 seats that are assigned to you for the day. Dedicated private porta-lets are available for the convenience of our guests. Unlimited refreshments will be provided throughout the day, as well as a catered lunch.

- In-and-out access from the Flight Line Club area throughout the day
- Reserved tables of 2 or 4, front line seating in spacious exclusive viewing area
- Catered, buffet-style lunch
- Unlimited water and soft drinks
- Shaded tent area for temporary relief from the sun

Premium Box Seats are reserved seats located directly on the flight line, providing an outstanding way to view the air show. This area offers "in and out" privileges throughout the day for guests to enjoy the static displays, concessions, souvenir booths, and exhibitors. Pick your seats and they will be assigned to you for the entire day. Seating is not under shade for maximum viewing of the air show. However, there will be shade tents available in the back of the seating area.

Frequently Asked Questions

ONE PASS PER VEHICLE.

A parking pass is required for entry onto the base (including DoD ID card holders). Residents of on-base housing may enter the installation through the King Street Gate.

For attendees who receive an on-base parking pass, the Armistead and Lasalle gates will open at 9 a.m. on both days. For attendees who receive off base parking, transportation from those lots will begin at 8:45 a.m. on both days.


King Street Gate is not available for the public air show attendees.


What to bring:

Visitors should be prepared for the weather of the day and exciting loud aircraft maneuvers by bringing hearing protection.

TIPS:

  • Sunscreen
  • Plastic beverage bottles with factory seal intact (baby bottles exempt)
  • Reusable water bottle (empty for security line, free water stations are available inside)
  • Hearing protection (especially for children)
  • Wagon or lightweight stroller for tired children
  • Stadium chair or cushion for free bleacher seating (collapsible camping chairs are fine, but subject to search)
  • Food, beverages, and souvenirs will be available for purchase at the event

Visitors may want to bring cash as many booths selling food, beverages, and souvenirs will be open for business.



What to bring and what not to bring:

*All visitors are subject to search by security forces.

Take note of prohibited items while planning your day at Airpower Over Hampton Roads 2023. Banned items will be confiscated and/or cause visitors to be turned away at the gate.


Anyone trying to enter the event with the following prohibited items will be turned away and/or have their items confiscated: 

  • Firearms of any type

  • Toys that resemble firearms, laser pointers

  • Flammable items and Fireworks

  • Alcohol and illegal drugs

  • Drones

  • Pets (except for service animals)

  • Spray paint and silly string

  • Outside food, coolers, grills, or glass containers

  • Glass bottles

  • Liquid without factory seal intact (baby bottles are exempt)

  • Walkie-talkies, HAM radios, scanners

  • Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, heelies, roller skates or roller blades, or hover boards

  • Excessively large items and bags (the only exceptions are diaper bags, small purses, and small camera bags at or below 21 inches long, 10 inches wide, 10 inches deep)

  • 3D Cameras

  • Backpacks that are not clear/see-through

It is recommended that attendees bring:

  • • Do not try and enter the base without a parking pass.
  • • FREE parking will be located in various locations, both on and off base.
  • • All attendees MUST pre-register to obtain a parking pass.
  • • Transportation will be provided from the parking lots, except for some of the locations on-base that are within walking distance.
  • • DoD ID card holders, unless they have a residence on-base or are working the event, will need to register for a parking pass.
  • • Base residents will be able to use the King Street Gate and Durand/NASA Gates to enter and exit.
  • • The first registrants will receive parking passes for on-base. Once those spots are full, registrants will receive parking passes for off-base.
  • • If you receive an on-base parking pass, pay close attention to which gate to enter; it will be either Armistead Gate or LaSalle Gate.
  • • Armistead and LaSalle Gates will open at 9 a.m. for Air Show attendees who have on-base parking passes.
  • • The King Street Gate will be closed to the public.
  • • If you receive an off-base parking pass, pay close attention to which lot your pass if for; it will either be at the Hampton Coliseum or the Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC).
  • • The off-base lots will open at 8 a.m. and transportation to the event will begin at 8:45 a.m.
  • • Once registered, the parking pass and email instructions will indicate which lot to park in.
  • • If your parking spot is off base, you will report directly to that lot and not come through the base gates.
  • • Handicap parking will be available for individuals who have state-issued handicap parking placards and/or plates.
  • • Please follow the general parking registration instructions and be prepared to show your handicap parking permit upon entry.


I have small children. Can I bring a stroller, diaper bag, or change of clothes?

Yes. Strollers will be hand-searched at the security checkpoint. Please bring only necessary items in the diaper bag, subject to hand-search at the security checkpoint. Also please consider bringing hearing protection for small children.


Can I bring my camera, video camera, or cell phone?

Yes. There are no security restrictions on these items. However, large camera bags are not permitted. Bring only necessary camera equipment, leaving extra attachments at home. A small fanny pack or vest is useful for carrying small lenses. Keep in mind that everything is subject to search.


Can I bring food?

Small snacks are fine as long as they are not in glass containers.  In addition, no ice chests or coolers (except small coolers for medical supplies or infant formula purposes,) nor bags larger than a small purse, fanny pack, backpack and Camelbaks will be allowed. All items brought are subject to approval by gate security personnel and are hand-searched at security checkpoint.


Will there be any food or souvenirs available?

Yes. There will be concessions at the Airpower Over Hampton Roads 2023 for food, drinks, and souvenirs.


Can I leave and re-enter the Airpower Over Hampton Roads 2023? 

Yes. You may leave and re-enter as many times as needed. However, anyone re-entering will have to go through the shuttle bus line and security checkpoints again.


Is tailgating allowed?

No.


Do I need a military ID?

No, this event is open to the public.


Can I take pictures or get autographs?

Yes. Many of the performers make themselves available for autographs and pictures during the show.


Will it be necessary to have hearing protection?

Due to the nature of the event, it is highly encouraged you bring hearing protection – especially for children. There will be a number of aircraft taking off, landing, and performing, which will be extremely loud.


Which day will the Thunderbirds be performing?

Both! The Thunderbirds will perform their amazing demonstrations both days, weather permitting.


Will there be shade?

There are limited areas of shade available throughout the flight line. You can take a walk through one of our larger static displays to get a break from the sun, as well as a few open hangars featuring displays.


What happens if it rains?

In the event of rain, some flying demonstrations may be delayed. However, unless the weather poses a serious threat to the safety of the visitors and participants, the show will proceed as scheduled with some modifications. In the event of an Air Show cancellation, announcements will be coordinated with local news agencies as well as a recorded message available on the Installation Status Hotline, (757) 764-7550, as it becomes available.


Are umbrellas allowed at the air show?

Small rain umbrellas are fine to bring (the small ones that fit in a purse), but large golf umbrellas or shade umbrellas are banned as they may block the view of spectators behind you.


What type of medical services will be available?

First aid only will be provided such as oral hydration, treatment for minor cuts and bruises, and application of emergency medications (ex. Epi-pens). Medical personnel will stabilize and coordinate transportation to higher level of care for all other injuries/illnesses.
