Actors Point Theatre Company is producing the sequel to the beloved family musical, Annie Warbucks . The book is by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse, and lyrics by Martin Charnin. This children?s classic begins during Annie?s first Christmas as a Warbucks in 1933. Daddy Warbucks is informed by Child Welfare Commissioner Harriet Doyle that unless he finds a mother for Annie in sixty days he will lose her. In the scramble to find a bride, Warbucks also uncovers a plot to steal his fortune.
Director Greg Wilson is excited to present middle Tennessee the sequel. ?Many people know the story of Little Orphan Annie but don?t know about her life after she was adopted? says Wilson. ?We are excited about telling Annie Warbuck?s story and producing it with such wonderful talent.? The cast will consist of approximately fifty performers, half of them children.
The development of Annie Warbucks was written and rehearsed in a workshop at the Godspeed Opera House nearly over two decades ago. The musical was performed in Chicago for several weeks and was followed by a five city national tour in 1992. The production was set to open on Broadway the following year but a major investor pulled out of the show. Annie Warbucks performed off-broadway at the Variety Arts Theatre in 1993 and ran for two hundred performances. The show was so popular it broke all off-Broadway box office records at the time.
Actors Point Theatre Company is the first to produce Annie Warbucks in Sumner County.
