John Sayles wrote, directed and produced this true gem that, although released in 1996, could hardly be more contemporary. The film explores the dynamics of a diverse group of people — black, white, brown and Native American — on a Texas-Mexican border town trying to navigate unsettling cross-cultural currents ... against the backdrop of a murder mystery. During the course of this beautifully edited film seemingly disparate lives intersect, some in surprising ways, and you don’t know the whole story until quite literally the last sixty seconds.

The star-studded cast includes Chris Cooper, Frances McDormand, Mathew McConaughey, Elizabeth Peña, Ron Canada, Chandra Wilson, Joe Morton, Tony Amendola, Miriam Colon, Clifton James and Kris Kristofferson a possibly the most utterly evil person ever portrayed on the Silver Screen.

The film will be introduced by former Laguna mayor Paul Freeman who will facilitate an open discussion following the end of the movie.
