“I'm so embarrassed”

We recently sent you an email invitation to a great event here at The Center. Jason Feddy and his band live on Mother's Day evening, May 14th, 6-8pm.
Don't worry - the event is still in the calendar! Ticket sales from the show will go towards the production costs of a sizzle reel for Jason's popular show "Shakespeare's Fool." similar to the sample video below LBCAC created for Jorg Dubin.

Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center Presents - Jorg Dubin - Portrait of an Artist

Here's the thing: as part of our marketing strategy, we asked Jason to write copy for the email. You may have read his essay in which he cried poverty, suggesting that he and his long suffering wife Ava were in dire financial straits, barely able to put food on the table.

Jason now writes: "Now I'm really embarrassed. I was trying to be funny and my joke totally fell flat. Half a dozen close friends have called to ask if we're ok. People have quietly and kindly offered to help. To be clear: the truth is we're doing well. We live a great life here in OC and are grateful for the freedom and opportunities we have to work, eat well, travel and remain independent."

"The worst thing about my stupid attempt at humor (which was also posted on social media) is that Ava read the original copy, was appalled at the implication that we're broke and implored me not to publish. I dismissed her feelings and her opinion that it would backfire. She was right and I was wrong. I should've heard her and I didn't. Aside from everything this was an insult to her intelligence. I'm sincerely sorry to her and to all who may have been mislead by the piece".

The rest of the text still stands:

"Rick Conkey and his crack production team have agreed to partner with us to produce a high-quality sizzle reel, part of which will be filmed before a live audience on May 14th 6-8pm.

I will bring some of my favorite musicians, my guitar, a few off-color stories, and my rumpled charm. We'll perform rock ‘n’ roll and original ballads as the cameras roll. We'll play from Shakespeare’s Fool, our funny, irreverent, high-energy romp through some of The Bard’s most iconic verse. Ava will perform a speech or two."

We urge you to do something nice for your mom, then make a beeline to the Center to enjoy the music!”
