     NAS OCEANA
     AIR SHOW

     September 18th - 19th, 2021

The 2021 NAS Oceana Air Show is scheduled for 18-19 September and we’re pleased to announce that IT WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!  The entire team is eager to once again open our doors and welcome aboard visitors from near and far to this Master Jet Base to see the return of the Air Show.  This year our theme is “The Blues are Back!”  The Blue Angels will be making their first appearance at NAS Oceana since 2018, celebrating their 75th anniversary and flying the demonstration in their brand new F/A-18 Super Hornets.  We will also have the F/A-18 Super Hornet Tactical Demonstration, the USAF F-22 Raptor Tactical Demonstration, and we’re very pleased to announce the first-ever Oceana appearance of the Navy’s newest fighter, the F-35 Lightning II Tactical Demonstration.  Our overall performer list is still under development but you can expect to see our signature Air Power Demonstration with Fleet Flyby, performances by local Navy squadrons, and world-class civilian performers like Mike Goulian, Kent Pietsch, and the AFTERSHOCK Jet Firetruck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Admission and parking at the show are free, but tickets for seating upgrades and chalet upgrades are available for purchase.

If your child will be sitting in his or her own seat, a seat will need to be purchased. Otherwise, the show is free for all ages.

What time do the Blue Angels perform?

We’re still building the flying timeline but our best estimate now is that the Blue Angels will start their performance at 3:00pm. as they’ve done in the past.  We’ll update the web site when more is known in early August.

What time can I come on base on Saturday or Sunday?

On Saturday and Sunday, 18-19 September, the gates open to the public at 8:00am.  Flying starts at about 10am and runs until 4:00pm.

Are masks required on base?

Much like Virginia Department of Health guidance, masks are not required for those who have been vaccinated.  All un-vaccinated guests are asked to wear masks while at the show.

Are we required to maintain social distancing at the show?

Yes.  While the State of Virginia has lifted outdoor social distancing requirements, US Navy policy still maintains that requirement to ensure we keep our Sailors and personnel as safe as possible and ready to deploy at a moment’s notice.  All guests are asked to maintain social distancing, in particular when setting up personal chairs on the flight line.  There is plenty of space to spread out and we ask our guests to please do so and treat your neighbor with courtesy.

What is the cost of the show?

Admission and parking at the show are free.  You can purchase upgraded seating either online via the website (www.oceanaairshow.com) or at the show itself.

What are the prices for paid seating and the Executive Squadron Chalet?

Bleacher Seating - $10 online ($15 day of show)

General Seating - $15 online ($20 day of show)

Reserved Seats - $20 online ($25 day of show)

Shade Chalet (includes water) - $25 online ($30 day of show)

What is the difference between Reserved and General seating?

Reserved seats are the first five rows of paid seating. These seats are numbered so you have the same chair for the duration of the event. The general seats are the next ten rows of seats but they are general admission seats so if you leave during the event you may not be able to return to the same chair.

Are there any security policies I need to be aware of?

Our security team is here to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all of our guests.  A few things to remember:

  • Weapons/Concealed Carry – All weapons (regardless of permit) are prohibited, including firearms, knives (including pocket knives and multi-tools), walking sticks (except for handicap use) and all other items that the security force deems dangerous.  Any confiscated items will not be returned.

  • Marijuana/Drugs – Although legal in Virginia, it’s not legal on the installation. Personnel found to be in possession will be charged and asked to leave.

  • Searches/Screening – All guests entering the event and their bags are subject to search.

Prohibited items:

  • Ice chests or coolers

  • Remote control aircraft, drones, balloons (flight safety issue)

  • Large bags (bags larger than a large purse or diaper bag), duffle bags, briefcases

  • Umbrellas and sunshades

  • Wheelchairs

  • Baby bags and strollers, if attending with an infant or small child (Strollers are not permitted in the grandstand area.  Adjacent stroller parking is available).

Is there Special Needs seating?

Yes.  We have a very robust Special Needs effort at the show to include roving golf carts and a special seating area right near the action.  Please make sure your vehicle prominently displays a handicapped placard and you’ll be routed to special parking areas and met by our Special Needs transportation staff.

Are the Saturday and Sunday shows the same?

Yes.  The Saturday and Sunday shows are identical.

Can I bring a pop-up canopy tents (10’x10’) for shade?

No, but you can bring umbrellas and folding chairs.

Can we bring in picnic lunches and drinks?

No food or beverage, but there are a large number of food vendors on the flight line with a huge assortment of different types of foods at very reasonable prices.

Where can I get a schedule of events and performers for the day so I know what time different acts are flying?

A detailed schedule and sequence of events will be available on this website in early September (http://www.oceanaairshow.com/schedule).  As a general rule of thumb, flying will start around 10am.  Between 11am and 12pm you will see the National Anthem and several military demonstrations. After 12pm the pace of action will begin to increase, with the Blue Angels beginning their performance at 3:00pm.
