Event Description

Lyrica Classic Entertainment present:

The evening that will captivate your soul with magical dreams and melodies of the night.

Russian soprano Yulia Petrachuk and American pianist Elizabeth Brown perform the masterworks by Sergey Rachmaninoff, Piotr Tchaikovsky, Claude Debussy, Henry Duparc, Edvard Grieg, Frederic Chopin and Richard Strauss. The concert takes place at the new Grace Chapel at Washington National Cathedral School.

After the concert, please join us for a wine reception with homemade pastries!

YULIA PETRACHUK - soprano

"Yulia is a special and unique artist, able to hold her own on any stage in the world? - Daniel Rigazzi, Stage Director at Metropolitan Opera in NYC.

Born in Russia, Ms. Petrachuk studied at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and is a graduate of Bern Opera Studio in Bern, Switzerland. Her debut as a professional opera singer was with the State Theater Bern, Switzerland in 2010. She has also performed with Theater Biel (Switzerland), Ash Lawn Opera Festival, Opera Ischia (Italy), Dicapo Opera Theater NYC, Great Moscow Hall, Vocal Productions NYC and Opera Camerata. Some of her main roles performed include Fiordiligi, Mimi, Violetta, Nedda, Iolanta, Tatiana, Euridice, Flaminio, Lauretta, Adina, Donna Anna.
In 2012, Ms. Petrachuk received a grant by The Schuyler Foundation for Career Bridge and in 2015 she was one of the Finalists in the Vocal Arts DC Discovery Series Competition in Washington DC. In 2015, she won the Montpelier Art Center?s Classical Recital Series Competition.
In November 2015, Ms. Petrachuk successfully performed the World Premiere of a song cycle ?Yulia? for soprano and strings by E. Duboi at Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center, NYC in collaboration with renowned Italian pianist Carlo Pari. 
In December 2016, she had a recital at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall with American pianist Michael Fennelly and performed a world premier of a song cycle ?Winter Wood? by Emmanuel Dubois for soprano and harp.
In June 2017, she performed the role of Donna Anna in Mozart's opera Don Giovanni with the Vienna Music Festival in Vienna, Austria. 
In January 2018, Yulia performed at the Smetana Hall in Prague, Czech Republic with Italian conductor Alfredo Sorichetti and New World Symphony Orchestra, and at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall at Winter Gala Concert with the Russian Cultural Center of New York. In April 2018, Yulia performed soprano solo in Brahm?s German Requiem with Easton Choral Society in Easton, MD along with baritone Javier Arrey and conductor Wes Lockfaw.
Recently, in June 2018, Yulia successfully performed World Premier of the Oratorio for the Fallen by E. Dubois in Saint-Clair in France. And in July 2018, Yulia performed at the Rossini Festival ?Case Sonore? in Monteleone, Italy with renown Rossini bass Bruno Pratico.
Her future performances include Soprano Solo in Christmas Oratorio by Sain Saens with Easton Choral Arts Society in Easton, MD and various operatic and concert series performances in USA, Italy, Austria, Russia and France. More info: www.yuliapetrachuk.com


ELIZABETH BROWN ? pianist

Pianist Dr. Elizabeth Brown enjoys a diverse musical career as an active chamber musician, teacher, orchestral keyboardist, and accompanist in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.  A graduate of Northwestern University, Dr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Bachelor of Music in Solo Piano Performance.  She recently completed her doctoral studies at the University of Maryland, receiving a D.M.A. in Collaborative Piano under the tutelage of Rita Sloan.  

Dr. Brown has spent several summers working with both instrumentalists and singers at the Aspen Music Festival.  She has also performed at a number of other summer festivals, including Songfest, The American Russian Piano Institute in St. Petersburg, Bowdoin Summer Music Festival, and the Opera Theater and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy.  In addition, she performs frequently as a member of The Shepherd Trio, a chamber ensemble she co-founded with members of the United States Air Force Band.  She is currently on faculty at the University of Maryland as Lecturer in piano chamber music, and she also teaches at the International School of Music in Bethesda, MD.

DIRECTIONS: To find the Chapel, it's better to arrive to Washington Cathedral, then you have to enter thru the main door of the Washington Cathedral School which is located on the left side from the underground parking, you have to pass thru the main school building and the garden, it's about 5-7min of walk.
